An Officer and Two Gentleman granted me the opportunity to heal mentally and emotionally from trauma suffered during combat operations from the years 2002 - 2016. I deal with anxiety, depression and PTSD on a daily basis. However, as a single father and Certified Brain Injury Specialist working directly with veterans I must continue to push through my own disabilities in order to improve the quality of life of my fellow veterans and more importantly my children.
Programs such as AOATG provides me the tools, understanding, patience and ability to cope independently in order to function as a member of the Ft. Bragg, N.C. military community.
The camaraderie and team building experience that Michael DeFazio and his staff provide is insurmountable towards daily growth, soul searching and sense of adventure as veterans with disabilities transition into fully capable adaptive athletes, leaving the word disability out of my daily vocabulary.
I will forever be grateful to the experience shared during my trip and the skills I learned. This is something that even though I never would have independently planned on doing, AOATG provided me with the opportunity to experience and strive at. #nooneridesalone
Thank you AOATG!
Respectfully,
Jesus O. Ramirez, SFC, US Army Retired, CBIS and Dad!

After being medically, retired from the military due to being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis I really did not know what life would bring me next. I did not know there were still sports out there that I could participate in such as riding my hand bike, fishing, basketball, or even Diving. I never thought something I would be able to do was ride to on a snowmobile. I have never ridden on a snowmobile before my illness and just because of my illness I did not want it to hold me back. I went up with the open mind and ready for anything and I was looking for that little bit of adrenaline I used to receive when I was riding motorcycles and dirt bikes. But a snowmobile never crossed my mind. I am a city boy from Baltimore Maryland, and never had the opportunity we never thought I would want to ride a snowmobile . The the event I attended with an officer and two gentlemen, really let me know that just because I am in a wheelchair there’s nothing thats stopping me from being the best me, this trip brought that out of me I have smiled more than I have in a long time, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Any day you allow me to turn in my wheelchair and allow me an opportunity to ride as even a passenger has made me feel complete. I hope and pray that I will be able to go back and show others that just because you’re in a wheelchair does not mean you have to change everything in your life but you can always adapt and that’s what I choose, I hope other veterans and first responders have the same experience I did on this trip.
Just stay off mount Everest lol you can leave that part out and change what you need to
God don’t do normal.

Most people in New England dislike the winter. Not Mike DeFazio. Mike and his staff at AOATG look forward to the winter. Thats when they get active duty, veterans, and first responders into the great North Woods. Mike gave me an opportunity in February 2022 to understand what snowmobiling was all about. He met me at my interest and ability level, and by the end of the retreat I felt very comfortable on a sled (thats apparently what the hardcore riders call them). The retreat was so great that I am actually looking forward to the next cold New England winter, and the chance at another opportunity to head up North with AOATG. While the speed on the trail was great, the best part was the camaraderie, stories, and sense of belonging. Tim McPartlin, US Army veteran.
